My Journey Into Skincare
Here’s a little back story about my transition into skincare. I graduated from Ajayi Crowther University where I studied Geology and had high hopes of working for a reputable oil and gas firm. I was posted to Cross River State where I served teaching in a secondary school.
While serving, I started applying to various companies till my service year was finally over, no luck. On returning to Lagos, I started trying for various positions in different sectors, seeing that the Oil Industry at this point had crashed. I wrote some tests and attended lots of interviews but a year almost after completing my Youth Service, I still couldn’t get a job that with a decent pay package.
With my current state of joblessness and since manna doesn’t fall from heaven (we are in the new testament, not the old.) I couldn’t keep waiting for a job and at this point, decided to start trying to figure out what business ventures I could go into. I thought about catering because I’m a foodie…(no joke, I am an excellent cook and I really LOVE food), bag making, make up artistry, event planning etc. But I noticed most of these were over saturated with demand definitely outweighing supply in the Nigerian Market.
My personal transition started about a year ago after I tried several skincare products for a breakout that I had, none of which seemed to work for me. In some cases, I even had severe breakouts or hyperpigmentation afterwards.
I started researching online for ways to improve my skin condition and came across the production of skincare products using natural ingredients. Tried some the more convincing recipes I found and it actually worked.
From lots of research, a feasibility study and engagement with focus groups, I quickly found out that I wasn’t the only one with the same skin problems and there is actually a market for these products. With further research and thinking deeply, I decided to go into making skincare products using solely natural ingredients, since chemicals have done more harm than good to my skin, and obviously others too. So I’ll be the first one to admit that I don’t have the perfect skin yet (even though it feels pretty perfect compared to what it was)
I continued researching, created a group on whatsapp of 20 ladies from different parts of the country who are also skincare consultants, completed online training courses to became a certified skincare consultant. That’s when ‘’ GEE ORGANICS SKINCARE’ was born. The ingredients are 100% natural and our motto is ‘All about the glow’.
My products consist of skin glow, toning and whitening black soap, brightening, toning and whitening creams and lotions, face and body scrub, face cream, knuckles set, dark armpit fader, stretch mark set, cleansers and toners, kids body wash, kids body butter, bleached skin treatment, body oils, boobs and hips enlargement set, pimples and acne set, body polish, serums etc.
I began producing commercially around July and I’ve gotten positive responses so far. Because people are becoming more aware of the adverse effects of harsh chemicals on the skin, they want to use products that are safe and natural and that is what we stand for. I will keep on improving and plan to carve a niche for myself one day in this industry. The sky is definitely my starting point.
And my skincare adventure continues. Don’t forget advise and consultation is always at hand from me. You can either email: firstname.lastname@example.org, call: 07060559077, 08181407504 or get in touch via any of my social media channels.
