However, we're aware that coconut oil is quite expensive. And as a result, a whole lot of people are being deprived of enjoying its benefits.

It is for this reason we've decided to show you how you can make your own coconut oil and start enjoying the miraculous benefits it offers.



  1. Break your coconuts with a heavy blunt object and pry out the coconut meat from the coconut shell with a knife.

  2. Rinse the pieces of coconut thoroughly and cut them into small pieces to help your blender.

  3. Blend the coconuts with warm water to a smooth state. (Depending on the quantity you are making, you may need to grind in batches).

  4. Pour into a sieve to separate the coconut milk from the chaff. Then press with your hands to squeeze out the last drop.

  5. Grind the chaff a second time to get more coconut milk.

  6. Use a sieve with a finer mesh to remove the tiniest particles from the coconut milk.

  7. When done, cover the bowl of coconut milk and keep it in the fridge overnight. You do not have a fridge or NEPA took light? Click here or watch the second video below.

  8. The next morning, you will see that the coconut oil has separated from the water and caked beautifully on top like a frozen lake.

  9. Take the caked white coconut oil and place in a clean dry stainless steel pot.

  10. Cover the pot and start cooking on low to medium heat. If you notice any smoke at any time as you cook, reduce the heat to very low.

  11. Keep an eye on the pot and stir from time to time. Cook till you notice some charred coconut bits in the oil.

  12. Set the pot aside so the coconut oil can cool down to a comfortable temperature.

  13. Sieve with a chiffon cloth or a cheesecloth to remove the charred bits. If you still notice any charred bits in the sieved coconut oil, sieve again with a paper towel.

  14. Store in your cupboard and use when you wish.


How to use and store coconut oil

Apart from its numerous health benefit, one major difference between coconut oil and other oil is that it has a high melting point.

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature and melts only when the temperature rises considerably.

It is often in this form, and there is no need for yo keep it in your refrigerator.

On the other hand, If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes like hair care, melt the oil if it's in a solid state by keeping the bottle in the sun or soaking it in warm water.

You can also take some oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame. The microwave should not be used.

Then, take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair.

However, if its to be consumed internally, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes.

Or drink as prescribed by your physician.
